Month: February 2017
On Weds 18th March we will hold the last of this three-day course for choral teachers and conductors. Our visiting guest conductor will be David Brunner, from U.S.A, who will also be the guest visiting composer for the NewYVC Unite Cluster rehearsals the same week. We expect twenty-five teachers to go through to certification this year! Details of the next course will be announced in our summer newsletter.
Living Song is leading on the World Of Song with an SEN focus for the Bromley Youth Music Trust this year. The musical director, plus a number of young artists from the NewYVC Unite programme will teach on a series of teacher trainings and school based and cluster rehearsals, culminating in a performance in early July 2017.
Forest Voices, based at Woodgrange Infant School, Sebert Rd, London E7, have enjoyed a short project led by Paul Watson, our local ‘Inspirational’ MD and Singing Leader. They’re learning a gospel arrangement of ‘One Voice’ among other repertoire. Watch this space for our next singing party!
Newham Council has commissioned Living Song to offer a community singing opportunity at Stratford Library every Friday evening from 6 – 7.30pm for the Community Neighbourhoods extended hours programme. Local artists and singing leaders will lead each session, culminating in a sharing event in early May 2017. Everyone welcome! Come on down and set ‘the tone’ for your weekend!
Jane Wheeler from Living Song continues to lead teacher training for teachers on the British Council World Voice programme. The focus is training and Continuing Professional Develop for primary teachers and singing leaders in pedagogy, using singing to enhance engagement in the everyday school curriculum, language learning and developing a sense of global citizenship through learning songs contributed by participating countries from around the developing world.
Here’s a reminder that Living Song offers bespoke teacher training and school based projects based on a wide rage of possibilities. As an example we recently led a ‘twilight’ training for staff at Colgrave Primary School in Newham, supporting teachers to see how they can use classroom instrument, combined with singing to help bring their curriculum alive. The training reportedly inspired teachers to make more music in their everyday classrooms! Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have an idea for your school, or organisation.
On 18th July 2017, Living Song will be working with Stratford Circus to programme this NewYVC festival of song, with 500 singers from across Newham and East London Schools, NewYVC and visiting choirs from Scotland, Ireland and Merton, West London. Details for Peace in Every Voice – NewYVC Unite Festival 2017.
