Thank Goodness For Music!

As we approach the end of 2021, our main message is one of gratitude to all the people we work with and for our supporters and friends. In this, the end of our 10th Anniversary year, we have received so many kind and enthusiastic messages from artists, young people and partners about how much Living Song means to them.
|
|
|
While we can’t deny the challenges of the pandemic, we have many achievements to celebrate and future plans to look forward to. As we say goodbye to Stratford Circus, our long standing partner, their encouragement to reach out to other strong partners is bearing fruit and we are excited about where this can lead. We have already begun working with Lambeth Music Service on their massed singing programme, along with the Southbank Centre and Pegasus Opera.

We are in conversations with Stratford Youth Zone and have plans to develop our Living Song Young Artist Training Course in 2022. NewYVC is now embedded in the musical offer of Spitalfields Music and thanks to Stratford Youth Zone are continuing to rehearse at their old ‘haunt’ in Theatre Square. We wish them all the best under the wonderful Artistic Directorship of Naveen Arles and we very much look forward to keeping connected and finding ways to link up in future!

Our London Choral Music Experience (CME) weekend course in July this year was our first ‘in person’ singing event in over a year. It was emotional and meant so much to all participants and faculty alike. We are currently in discussions with Mandy Miller, the CME UK Director about plans for 2022, and very much hope that, Covid willing, we can offer an ‘in person’ course again next year. Watch this space.

We are excited to be moving forward with our newly appointed Young Artist Advisory Board, who will help to steer Living Song, keeping our work relevant and vibrant for our main service users - young people. The board will launch fully in January 2022, in time for our AGM in February.

Our song ‘MESSAGE’ written by a group of Young Artists, along with Errollyn Wallen and Shammi Pithia in 2017, is gaining interest far and wide. This is motivating us to prioritise publishing for many of the new songs we create during collaborative song making workshops. LOCKDOWN LIFE being one of them, created during Lockdown on the on-line Artist Approach Project. All Artist Approach resources can be found in our resources folder.

None of our work is possible without the support and recognition from our supporters, donors and funders. Whether people have individually donated via our DONATE button on the home page, have sought our partnership for specific singing programmes, or have made the decision to grant us funding in response to our applications, it all makes it possible to continue our work. Thank you to Arts Council England, Youth Music, and the Community Fund and every individual donor who has supported our work.
