Brendan JSW

Hello everyone, my name is Brendan JSW and I’m a YMM (Young Music Mentee) at Living Song CIC. I’ve always wanted to be in a band and release music similar to the artist I listen to. Earn a few awards, plaques, sold out tours and make memorable achievements. It’s been a great experience being with Living Song; I got to be in projects like Artist Approach and be able to the experience in co-leading singing workshops in libraries open to the public.

I got the opportunity to co-lead a singing workshop in Forest Gate Library, and I led a warm-up called “Our Poor Bird/Rose Rose Rose Rose”. When coming up with the idea on how to conduct this warm-up, I changed my idea and kept it basic and just taught the song. A challenge that I have to overcome is that someone might feel a type a way and might not want to do it. So I just put that into consideration and stuck to what was more comfortable for everyone. Leading a workshop felt a bit daunting because I’m not used to it, but once I got more into it I felt more calm about it.

Being part of Artist Approach again for the second time has been wonderful. First time was during lockdown and it was on zoom. Second time round it’s in person. The part of this project I enjoy is the songwriting. Getting the chance to write/produce an original song with other people you don’t know, makes you feel like you’re at a writing camp with songwriters and producers in the industry. This has helped me grow confidence in my songwriting abilities as I’m not used to doing much songwriting, doing it with others makes it more enjoyable.

Thank you!
Brendan JSW
