Artist Approach Project

We are delighted to launch the resources that have been developed concurrently with the collaborative writing of Lockdown Life. Two lead artists, two young artists, six developing young artist mentees and a life coach and storyteller worked together over six months. After much planning, brainstorming, discussion about this past extraordinary year, one-to-one mentoring and sharing, the team wrote the song Lockdown Life. Shammi Pithia and Michael Goodey produced the song while mentoring the mentees. Georgia Thorp provided mentoring one-to-one sessions and wrote the Zak Story based on the song lyrics. We were delighted to have Caro X share a BSL performance of the …

This month we begin our Artist Approach Project. We will be working with a professional Artist team of six, and six mentees to write and record a new song for our time.  Alongside this the team will be creating a set of resources for teachers and youth workers to use for facilitating collaborative song making in any context, including schools, youth centres and units for children learning with Special Educational Needs. Artists Approach

The Artist Approach resource pack is the outcome of Artists working together over the course of 5 months and includes ‘fly on the wall’ film snippets of the Artists and Mentees at work on Zoom. (Links in the Handbook and Presentation). We very much hope it will provide a clear and flexible framework for any group leaders wishing to facilitate song making with their own groups, and hopefully inspire some participants to write their own songs as a result of taking part in a collaboration. Harine Pushpanathan, Young Artist with Living Song

Hi! I’m Harine, currently one of Living Song’s Young Artists. I’ve been working with Living Song directly for about two years now and have had lots of amazing opportunities to grow as an artist and singing leader. My love for singing first grew through learning South Indian Carnatic vocals (by the end of which I obtained a Diploma) and singing with my primary school (Nelson Primary School) choir. In 2013, I joined NewYVC – a choir created by Jane Wheeler. I was part of NewYVC, East London for ten years before leaving for university. The Choral Music Experience (CME) …

Hello everyone, my name is Brendan JSW and I’m a YMM (Young Music Mentee) at Living Song CIC. I’ve always wanted to be in a band and release music similar to the artist I listen to. It’s been a great experience being with Living Song; I got to be in projects like Artist Approach and be able to the experience in co-leading singing workshops in libraries open to the public. I got the opportunity to co-lead a singing workshop in Forest Gate Library, and I led a …

Thank Goodness For Music!

As we approach the end of 2021, our main message is one of gratitude to all the people we work with and for our supporters and friends. In this, the end of our 10th Anniversary year, we have received so many kind and enthusiastic messages from artists, young people and partners about how much Living Song means to them. While we can’t deny the challenges of the pandemic, we have many achievements to celebrate and future plans to look forward to. As we say goodbye to Stratford Circus, our long standing partner, their encouragement to reach out to other strong …
